#McDonalds = #McDumb?

Posted by on Jan 24, 2012 in Blog | Comments Off

Lots of articles today on McDonalds’ twitter campaign that backfired.  We are all Monday-morning quarterbacking this one, but honestly, did they really think #McDstories was going to net them a treasure trove of beautiful anecdotes?  Even the best loved brands need tread carefully with that type of strategy. To me, it’s pretty simple.  What’s the overall favorable or NPS score for the brand (and if you don’t know, you should embark on this type of campaign).  If your measurement of those who are unfavorable towards...

Zappos hacked… Will your faith in the brand be shaken?

Posted by on Jan 16, 2012 in Blog | Comments Off

Well, another online retailer hacked, and yes, my account is included.  According to the carefully worded email from Zappos, there’s a chance that my email, shipping address and last four digits of my credit card may have been accessed (and yours too?). How do you feel they have handled this issue so far?  Will your faith in the brand be shaken?  More importantly, will you shop buy from Zappos again?   Zappos 24 million records...

New year…new job? What should you do in your first 100 days?

Posted by on Jan 12, 2012 in Blog | Comments Off

With the start of the new year, many of my colleagues have started new jobs or new roles.  It reminded me that a friend of mine wrote a book on leadership and what to do when starting a new job.  The book is titled The New Leader’s 100-Day Action Plan: How to Take Charge, Build Your Team, and Get Immediate Results.  As the title implies, the book walks you through how to get off to a great start in a new role, but I have found it useful to reread it at the beginning of this year to refocus my attention on what’s important....

Does your company respond to every social media post?

Posted by on Jan 9, 2012 in Blog | Comments Off

Interesting data on what customers expect from companies when they post on a brand page or site.  My bottom line advice:  make sure there is a response of some kind… If you are going to encourage interaction with your company, the implied expectation is that posts will be responded to.  Thoughts? Google+…are you buying the hype?

Posted by on Jan 4, 2012 in Blog | Comments Off

Lots of stories coming out about Google+ traffic at an all time high… But is anybody actually using it?  Are you? Once it left beta, it seems to be that a whole bunch of people have moved ahead and signed up for Google+ and once it’s linked to your Google account, well, I’m not sure this passive arrangement is actually going anywhere I find it interesting that some media outlets report an increase in “visits” while others say...

End of year digital clean up!

Posted by on Dec 27, 2011 in Blog | Comments Off

Friends and colleagues…  As the end of the year approaches, this week is the perfect time to do a little digital housecleaning.  Here’s my list: Passwords: Review major sites and applications and change passwords if you haven’t done so in a while.  I save my information in a password protected file that is backed up.  With so many sites now requiring varying levels of security, it’s nearly impossible to have one username and password combo anymore (nor should you), so trust me, keep a list…and somewhere safe....

Must read for Google marketers (and everyone else) …

Posted by on Dec 23, 2011 in Blog | Comments Off

Interesting read, and seems to be very much on target. Google dominates search because it continues to improve on results provided to its users… interesting thought huh?  Try the flight pricing option mentioned in the article (type any three letter airport code, to, and then the destination: PDX to LAX).  It basically eliminates the need for going to a web site just to search ticket prices. This quote is especially telling: “Regardless of whether the information and options available to searchers are free or paid for by...

What are your thoughts?  Have you rolled out the new Facebook Timeline yet?  Have you tried Google+? I’m particularly intrigued by the Kickstarter concept of  getting your project funded and Quirky which helps inventors get products developed. Here is the HBR article.
